National Youth Week consortium

A consortium led by the National Youth Agency has been appointed by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) to help tackle negative perceptions of young people and to promote their participation in positive activities.

The National Youth Week Consortium includes NCVYS, the National Youth Agency, Haymarket Network and Children & Young People Now, the Media Trust, the Prince’s Trust, UK Youth Parliament, UK Youth and Twofour Communications.

The consortium, which was contracted in December 2008 to explore the feasibility of running a national youth week, will work in partnerships with Creativity, Culture and Education (CCE), as well as DCSF, to support the delivery of Shine Week 09 from 6 to 10 July 2009.

The partners in the consortium will aim to bring a higher profile for the youth sector during Shine Week as it grows beyond the school gates. The consortium will also work to promote OPEN Weekend, the DCSF’s campaign to encourage evening and weekend opening of positive activities which launches at the end of Shine Week.

The consortium has been tasked by the DCSF to lead the future development of a national week for young people in 2010.
