SUPPORTING TRAINING PROVIDERS

Supporting training providers

Many employers within the voluntary and community youth sector are also training providers, in that they provide training directly to their staff and volunteers and/or externally to the rest of the sector. The information contained within this section will support the sector's training providers to develop and improve their provision:

National Learning Alliance

The National Learning Alliance (TSNLA) is a growing national alliance of voluntary and community organisations and social enterprises involved in learning and training. It aims to offer a coherent 'voice' from and for training providers across government departments and other important bodies, and a forum for developing ideas and proposals. For more information >> NLA web site

Commissioning third sector training providers

Commissioning of training providers to deliver 14-19 learning has been transferred to the Young People's Learning Agency.  For more information go to >> Third Sector Section of the YPLA web site and the TSNLA web site (who have a contract to provide the third sector with support and resources during this transition period).

The Skills Funding Agency has the funding responsibility for adult learning and services such as the National Apprenticeship Service.

NCVYS continues to lobby the Government to consider a different approach to the procurement of training from the the third sector - see report from March 2009 meeting (PDF) highlighting key issues for the third sector. We hope that a simple commissioning framework will be produced, making it easier for the sector's training providers to gain contracts.

Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF)

With the new QCF, learners will be more able to study in 'bite-sized chunks', building up a portfolio of accredited training which suits their individual needs.  For more information >> QCF web pages (external - QCDA web site) and the Children's Workforce Development Council's QCF web pages.
