Quality Assurance

NCVYS has a strong track record in supporting the voluntary youth sector in quality assurance processes. As well as running an internally developed quality assurance system, Sound Systems, NCVYS is currently working in partnership with the National Youth Agency to develop a "Quality Exchange" for the youth sector. The aims of the exchange are:

  • To provide information and guidance to the youth sector on quality assurance systems relevant to the youth sector;

  • To enable the sector to network and share practice around quality assurance systems;

  • To explore and highlight where quality assurance systems overlap in order to enable the sector to transfer modules from one system to another and subsequently avoid duplication of work; and

  • To raise the profile of quality assurance systems relevant to the youth sector to policy-makers, funders and commissioners.

Raising the Standards

With funding from VCS Engage, the NYA and NCVYS have published a short publication on quality assurance in the youth sector. The joint mini-guide - Raising the Standards - is designed to provide information and guidance on quality assurance systems for the youth work sector and raise the profile of such systems with policy makers, funders and commissioners.

Quality Exchange - Showcase and Consultation Event

The document was published from an initial showcase and consultation event held in 30 May 2007, also funded by VCS Engage. The event:

  • Showcased three tried and tested quality assurance systems of relevance to the youth sector and explained how they fit together. The systems were The NYA’s Youth Mark and Hear by Right , and NCVYS’ Sound Systems; Enabled participants to explore these systems in detail and discuss how they might be relevant to their organisations;

  • Provided an opportunity for the sector to network and share good practice around quality assurance systems;

  • Explored ways in which the Quality Exchange can be taken forward, including consulting on what a mini-guide might contain.

The report from the event and accompanying presentations are included below:

Youth Active - the heartbeat of youth sport

Youth Active, the dynamic youth sector sports development unit, was launched on 1 December 2005 with an aim to promote the value of physical recreation and sport in the personal and social development of young people. Led by NCVYS, in partnership with 4Children, YMCA England, Clubs for Young People and UK Youth and funded by Sport England, Youth Active sought to deliver sport and physical activity across the youth sector; avoiding duplication and building sports development capacity in those that work with young people. The Youth Active project closed in March 2008 but its legacy remains.
