Integrated Working Products and Processes
Integrated working is where everyone supporting children and young people work together effectively to put the child/young person at the centre, meet their needs and improve their lives. To help faciliate this and to do this effectively, the Government has funded a number of products and processes. This work is being led by the Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC) who can provide further advice. More detailed information can be found on the integrated working CWDC web pages. In addition, NAVCA has written factsheets for the third sector audience >> NAVCA web pages. SummaryTo follow is a brief summary of some of the products and processes and an explanation of relevance to the voluntary and community youth sector - particular those who work with vulnerable young people. It should be noted that ALL practitioners (volunteers and paid staff) should have awareness training on integrated working, as they need to know how to make contact with other organisations. Not all practitioners will need the in-depth training! Common Assessment FrameworkWhat is it? A standardised approach and shared tool to conduct an assessment of a young person's additional needs What do I need to do? Training on the tool is needed for: 1) vulnerable young people workers/volunteers as they help to meet children's complex and additional needs which this product is in place to help facilitate 2) if you are commissioned to deliver services 3) if you are a lead professional. Back to top Information Sharing - ContactPointWhat is it? A quick way for a practitioner to find out who else is working with the same child, making it easier to deliver more co-ordinated support. It is a basic on-line directory available to authorised staff. What do I need to do? Training is needed for VCS organisations who deliver statutory services and those commissioned to deliver services e.g. vulnerable young people workers delivering a service as part of an Integrated Youth Support Service. Back to top Lead professionalsWhat is it? A lead professional works with young people who have additional needs and require an integrated package of support from more than one practitioner. They act as a single point of contact and co-ordinates support. What do I need to do? If you want to take on a lead professional role then training is needed for the staff/volunteer member and their Manager. More intense supervision is needed for those who are lead professionals.
