How to find a volunteer placement

Volunteering is not only a good way to support young people - it can also help you to gain experience and improve your skills!

  • Look online – search volunteer vacancies at: www.do-it.org.uk or www.volunteering.org.uk. If you are aged 16-25 use www.vinspired.com

  • Community Service Volunteers - lists lots of opportunities to volunteer

  • Go to your local volunteer centre - search for your local centre on the Volunteer England's web site or call Volunteering England on 0845 305 6979

  • Ask at a local youth organisation - call in to a local youth group

  • Volunteer at a national voluntary youth organisation – many have branches across the country with a range of volunteering opportunities: view the full list of NCVYS members. Alternatively, contact us for more information: E: mail@ncvys.org.uk or T: 020 7278 1041

  • Ask your local voluntary youth network – they can tell you what groups exist locally. Contact us at NCVYS and we will tell you where your nearest network is - E: mail@ncvys.org.uk or T: 020 7278 1041

  • Ask your local Council for Voluntary Services – they can tell you what groups exist locally. To find your local service, go to the NAVCA website for details

  • Unemployed for more than six months? - under the Government’s Volunteer Brokerage Scheme, individuals who have been claiming Jobseekers Allowance for six months or more and are interested in volunteering can now be referred to a broker who will find them a local placement >> enquire at your local Job Centre

  • Are you a graduate? – the Graduate Talent Pool web site matches you to employers who offer internships (also known as work experience placements)
