The document is intended to inform the discussion about how children’s trusts can best involve the VCS especially smaller organisations.
Attaining better outcomes for children and young people will depend on effective partnerships with a wide range of VCS organisations. talking trusts sets out some straight forward recommendations which if implemented will have far reaching implications for the way that children’s trust work with the VCS. The talking trusts recommendations are divided across six areas of active engagement; representation; effective funding; operational coordination; and infrastructure development. talking trusts has been printed and distributed with support from VCS Engage. Firm Foundations: A Report into the Infrastructure Provision for Voluntary Youth Organisations in England (Linda Wright and Tony Jeffs, 1999)A primary concern of voluntary organisations in the wake of local government reform, changed funding regimes, the government's compact with the sector and regionalisation, is the development and maintenance of an effective infrastructure. Drawing on widespread research, this report surveys current provision on the English voluntary youth sector, and the areas which are most in need. The report goes on to recommend strategies for the future, and lays the basis for NCVYS's development work over coming years.
