NCVYS Annual Conference and AGM 2011A Citizen Society? The last twelve months have seen a renewed interest in the role of the citizen in society. From community organising to street protests, the role of the individual in speaking out for their rights and those of their community is more prominent than it has been for a generation. Nowhere is this more evident than in the action that young people take to advocate for the type of services and society they want. But is society ready to give young people an equal role in their communities? Are young people more interested in becoming citizens than anyone else? And are national programmes the answer to this? This year’s annual conference will tackle these questions and more, challenging delegates to assess what role the sector can and should play in fostering a citizen society and what difference this will make in connecting young people to their communities. In our 75th anniversary year, we invite you to join us on November 2 2011 to debate and discuss issues that are critical across our member network. With a range of topics on the agenda including localism, National Citizen Service and youth participation, you can expect a full day of thought provoking conversations about the role of young people in a changing society. An exciting line up of speakers, including sector specialists, policy makers and charity leaders will offer insights into encouraging innovative practices, maximising your resources and cultivating new funding approaches. Our afternoon seminars will provide delegates with the chance to learn from the experience of NCVYS members on a range of issues around developing active citizens and future leaders, delivering engaging youth participation services.
